Director of Publishing & Events (Miami or New York)

Our Client is seeking an exceptional sales manager to lead their commercial efforts across publishing and events departments. This senior management role, reporting directly to the CEO, will focus on leading a team of sales executives, driving revenue and building strategic relationships directly with key individuals in financial services, industry and government. The ideal candidate will have proven track record of successfully managing a sales team and exceeding business development targets in a fast-paced, competitive international environment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Leading, directing and driving business development and sales activities across Company events and magazine departments
  • Owning and developing sales strategy and targets for the sales team, aligned with the company’s business plan and/or annual budget
  • Conceiving and developing proposals for new business based on market research and client feedback; delivering such reports to management on a quarterly basis
  • Reporting to the Board and other such committees as required, on sales strategy and business development
  • Working closely with marketing, operations and editorial departments to ensure that sales strategy is properly aligned with business objectives
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with existing and potential clients
  • Gathering appropriate market and client information in order to effectively identify and pursue new sales opportunities
  • Drafting sales proposals and assisting in such drafting, where appropriate, for the team
  • Monitoring the performance of the sales team on an on-going basis, including through half-yearly performance reviews against agreed goals to ensure effective staff development.
  • Conducting weekly sales meetings with the team to comprehensively monitor sales prospects, targets and strategy; preparing bi-weekly sales reports for management
  • Coaching and mentoring sales team to improve individual performance and to encourage and maintain a motivated and high performance team
  • Identifying training and developmental priorities for sales team to ensure they possess the requisite skills and knowledge to successfully undertake their roles and responsibilities, including by accompanying sales staff on meetings/trips
  • Developing and implementing a travel strategy for the team, including by managing an annual travel budget to ensure your team reaches assigned sales targets
  • Managing client data in appropriate databases
  • Identifying, interviewing and recruiting sales executives as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Experience in advertising or event sponsorship sales, preferably relating to the financial sector
  • Knowledge of the financial/capital markets, banking and fund management
  • 5+years’experience managing a sales team
  • Proven language skills; must be fluent in English (native level) and Spanish. Portuguese a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Outstanding client management skills with a track record of building long term relationships at the highest level with key customers
  • Proven ability to close sales and generate revenue
  • Track record of taking initiative, thinking creatively and identifying new revenue opportunities
  • Experience working in complex, high-pressure environments
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: a sophisticated manager who can lead and inspire a team 
and ensure goals are met under time pressure
  • Client-focused with exceptional presentation and negotiation acumen
